Mixed Colony Grades

£2.00
Item number: 1RS MCG

Our Mixed Colony shrimp are a lively assortment drawn from our Neocaridina breeding tanks, offering a natural mix of colours and patterns. These shrimp may include a variety of tones and markings depending on the colonies they originate from, creating an interesting and ever-changing group within the aquarium.

Because these shrimp come from multiple breeding lines, their colouration and patterning can vary widely. Some may display lighter colour coverage or less defined patterns, while others may show unexpected hues or markings that make each group unique.

Mixed colony shrimp are perfect for hobbyists who enjoy the variety and unpredictability that comes with mixed genetics. In the right conditions they may even produce surprising colour combinations over time, making them especially enjoyable for shrimp keepers who like to observe how colonies develop.

Like all Neocaridina, these shrimp are peaceful, active, and constantly grazing, helping to maintain the natural balance of the aquarium by feeding on biofilm and algae.

Mixed Colony Grades - A Note From Our Tanks

At H&K Aquatics, every shrimp we breed is treated with care and respect. As breeders, we naturally see a wide range of colours and patterns emerge in our colonies. Some shrimp develop the bold colours and markings that define our higher grades, while others grow into slightly different or more subtle variations.

These shrimp are what we refer to as Colony Grade.

They are not unhealthy or unwanted animals — they are simply shrimp that don’t meet the very specific colour or pattern standards used for selective breeding lines. In many cases they are just as active, hardy, and interesting as their higher-grade relatives.

Unlike some commercial breeding operations, we do not cull or destroy shrimp that fall outside of colour grading standards. Instead, we offer them as mixed colony groups so they can go on to live in aquariums where they are appreciated for their natural variation and character.

Many shrimp keepers actually enjoy these mixed colonies the most. Watching the different colours, patterns, and genetics develop over time can be fascinating, and these groups often produce unexpected and beautiful offspring as the colony grows.

If you choose a mixed colony group from us, you are giving these “imperfect” shrimp a home where they can thrive and become part of a living ecosystem in your aquarium.

From our tanks to yours — every shrimp deserves a place to belong. 🦐
