Blue Pearl shrimp are a delicate and elegant variety of Neocaridina, known for their soft blue colouration and subtle translucent tones. Their gentle pearl-blue appearance creates a calm and natural look within the aquarium, particularly when contrasted against plants, mosses, and darker substrates.

Unlike deeper blue varieties such as Blue Dream, Blue Pearl shrimp often display lighter pastel blues and silvery undertones. This softer colouration gives them a unique charm and makes them a beautiful addition to planted aquariums where their colours can shimmer under aquarium lighting.

Peaceful and constantly active, Blue Pearl shrimp spend their time grazing on biofilm and algae throughout the aquarium. In a mature tank they quickly become an engaging part of the ecosystem while also contributing to natural tank maintenance.

Hardy and adaptable, Blue Pearl shrimp are suitable for both beginners and experienced shrimp keepers. In stable water conditions they breed readily, allowing colonies to grow and develop over time.

Blue Pearl Shrimp

Blue Pearl Shrimp, a captivating addition to any freshwater aquarium, are small, vibrant creatures known for their striking blue hue. Scientifically known as Neocaridina davidi, these shrimp are a selectively bred variant of the wild Neocaridina species. Their vivid colour, which can range from a pale sky blue to a deep sapphire, adds a pop of colour to tanks and provides an engaging visual contrast against green plants and dark substrates. Blue Pearl Shrimp are relatively easy to care for, making them a popular choice for both novice and experienced aquarists. They thrive in stable water conditions with a pH ranging from 6.5 to 8.0 and temperatures between 65°F and 80°F. These shrimp are peaceful and social, often seen grazing on algae and detritus, contributing to the tank’s cleanliness. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, Blue Pearl Shrimp are fascinating to observe as they interact with their environment and each other, often seen exploring and foraging with their tiny, delicate appendages.
